- ➤ A pickup truck slammed into a power pole on an icy road in Pocatello amid heavy winter storms — the crash temporarily left over 650 Idaho Power customers without electricity and shut down the road — affecting travel in the area. Idaho State Journal
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On March 15, deputies arrested two men after a call about suspicious behavior when they located, at 3:45 p.m., a vehicle with no plates parked in the 8000 block of 17th Street and observed driver Jason Mann moving frantically before discovering needles, drug paraphernalia and two bags of methamphetamine and arresting him along with his friend Sean Kasper (wanted in Lincoln County, Wyoming). - ➤ Stephen Wilson, Jr. will perform at the Portneuf Health Trust Amphitheater on July 19 — tickets go on sale Friday at 10:00 a.m. via eTix — and he is known for hits like "I'm a Song," "Cuckoo" and "Father's Son." KPVI
- ➤ Darius Rucker will perform at the Portneuf Health Trust Amphitheater on August 15th — he will be joined by Canadian country singer Jade Eagleson and tickets go on sale Friday at 10:00 a.m. KPVI
- ➤ Aspiring singers and music lovers in east Idaho will attend voice masterclasses led by opera professionals Jason and Michele Detwiler at Kind Conservatory at 412 West Center Street from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on March 31 and from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on April 1 for a $10 fee; local sponsor support helped set up the event—participants will also join a free concert on April 1 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church featuring renowned pianist Mark Neiwirth. - ➤ Bannock County Coroner Torey Danner is playing a key role in a reform effort to improve death investigations as a new bill passed the House and Senate + now awaits Gov. Brad's signature. The bill will clarify coroner roles and set higher standards for review processes in Idaho. Idaho State Journal
- ➤ Idaho Fish and Game is collecting public input to update its strategic plan, The Compass, which has guided wildlife management since 2015. The plan will not change hunting rules but will set a framework for addressing issues like hunter, angler, trapper and wildlife viewer satisfaction, habitat loss, invasive species and predator management—feedback is accepted online and at public meetings. - ➤ Eastern Idaho High Schools ended a busy winter sports season with 24 state championships. The Pocatello girls basketball team earned its first state title by defeating Middleton 62-46 on Feb. 22 at the Ford Idaho Center — teams from Rockland, Sugar-Salem, Preston and Malad also won titles as 23 individuals claimed wrestling championships.
