CULTURE NEWS

  • The Painted Violin Project will be on display this weekend at Gate City Coffee in Historic Downtown Pocatello, with live music on Friday, March 6 + a March 20 concert featuring auction bidding and $800 purchase options. Proceeds benefit the Idaho State Civic Symphony.  KPVI
  • Idaho International Choral Festival returns to Idaho State University from Jul. 15 to 18 as nine choirs from four continents perform at various venues including Jensen Grand Concert Hall — volunteers in Pocatello and Chubbuck are invited to host visiting choir members and assist with festival duties.  KPVI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Idaho State paleontologists are studying a toe bone at the campus museum and a skull in Zurich to see if they belong to a new dinosaur from the Late Jurassic. Professor Krumenacker will return to Zurich soon — for more tests.  East Idaho News

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Idaho Fish and Game analyzed mountain whitefish populations using snorkel surveys in the Salmon and Clearwater basins and re-surveys in southern Idaho. Results show steady numbers in most rivers but declines in small streams and wide rivers — the department now funds research to understand these shifts.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Idaho State Tax Commission said its systems now automatically apply a larger standard deduction on 2025 income tax returns for those who claim the standard option. Guidance on how to claim additional conformity deductions will come by mid-to-late March, and taxpayers may get an automatic filing extension by paying enough tax by April 15.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
  • The City of Chubbuck named Chas Clark fire chief on March 4th, and he brings 24 years of firefighting experience along with a fresh focus on accountability to the department.  Idaho State Journal
