  • Historic Downtown buzzes with local events this week as First National Bar hosts live music on Wednesday and Thursday while shops offer special deals and the Crafter’s Market runs Saturday.   • Girl Scouts are selling a new Rocky Road-inspired cookie called Exploremores at Ridleys in Pocatello until March 15 to raise funds for camp trips and gain skills like doing math and talking to people. Samantha Batiuk, a Girl Scout for three years, said the cookie tastes like an oreo outside (with almond marshmallow cream inside).  KPVI

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The NTSB released a preliminary report on the Jan. 27 plane crash + which killed a local meteorologist and a Meridian man when the small plane crashed in the Payette River.  Idaho State Journal

  • Clyde the Camel entertained the crowd at American Dog Derby today in Pocatello — his playful act brought a quirky twist to the family-friendly event.  Idaho State Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • District 91 is reviewing a potential merge of its career technical campus with Compass Academy to expand programs and reduce rental costs, as the board considers facility improvements for Idaho Falls High School. Decision details (including retaining separate staff for Compass and CTEC) will be shared soon.  Local News 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Pocatello will begin its annual spring clean-up at Restlawn Memorial Gardens and Mountain View Cemetery on Tuesday, Mar. 31 (weather permitting) and continue throughout April while removing all items from headstones; plot owners must remove personal belongings before work begins.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

HEALTH NEWS

  • Southeastern Idaho Public Health is offering free testing for hepatitis C, HIV and syphilis at clinics across the region throughout March in response to a national Bicillin shortage affecting syphilis treatment (especially for pregnant patients). Rapid finger-prick tests provide results before leaving and same-day appointments are available.  East Idaho News
  • A guest columnist warns that ending Medicaid Healthy Connections Case Management on Jan. 1 — leaving local primary care providers at risk for reduced after-hours services. Providers may cut services when lawmakers adjourn in March if the program is not restored.  Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer

SPORTS NEWS

  • Women athletes and students gathered tonight at Reed Gym to play games, blend smoothies, and enjoy freebies, organized by graduate student Laney Forsmann and ISU Recreation and Wellness. The event celebrated female athleticism after Team USA won six Winter Olympics gold medals.  Local News 8
  • Paralympic champion Hunter Woodhall and Olympic medalist Tara Davis-Woodhall returned to a Pocatello track this past weekend to mentor youth during a spontaneous race when 5-year-old Joel (wearing new prosthetic legs) beat Woodhall, inspiring local pride.  Local News 8
