COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ A local chainsaw artist in Pocatello is back at work after a resident donated a new chainsaw+ replacing two that had failed, enabling him to resume his creative craft. Idaho State Journal
- ➤ On Feb. 20, Marshall Public Library in downtown Pocatello received a $10,000 gift from the Carnegie Corporation of New York as part of a celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. The library will use the funds to enhance the historic Garfield side of its building. Pocatello-Chubbuck Observer
- ➤ Tom and Mary Cox celebrated 71 years of marriage this week; the couple met at Oregon State University where Tom first described Mary as (cute as a button). Their milestone shows lasting love in our community. Idaho State Journal
- ➤ A ribbon cutting took place Monday afternoon when the Bannock County Veteran's Memorial Association reopened its historic 1926 building, renovated after water damage from a busted pipe in late 2024 — the building now welcomes veterans and community events and plans to mark its 100th anniversary in May. - ➤ Chubbuck Mayor Rodney Burch said Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers will open next month at the former Denny's on Yellowstone Avenue. The restaurant is expected to add a new fast-food option for local residents. Idaho State Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Local artists teamed with Idaho State Civic Symphony and the Pocatello Arts Center to turn 25 unplayable violins into creative artworks. The pieces debuted on Feb. 6 and will be at Gate City Coffee on March 6 (final auction on March 20 will support music education). East Idaho News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ AAA Idaho reported Monday’s regular gas price in Pocatello averaged $2.97—nearly $3—up three cents from last week and 18 cents from a month ago. Nationally, prices also rose due to higher crude oil costs. East Idaho News
- ➤ Spudnik Equipment Company in Blackfoot laid off about 75 workers due to low commodity prices and rising input costs that reduced demand for new equipment. Blackfoot Mayor Scott Stufflebeam said it was a market-driven decision while the city plans to hire 20 seasonal workers from April to September. East Idaho News
- ➤ Fall River Electric Cooperative will pay out an extra $1.5 million as Instant Owner Rebates to its owner-members in March—the payment is designed to deliver cost savings directly to local customers. Post Register

HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Bingham Healthcare is building a new urgent care and specialty clinic at Lincoln Square in Bonneville County along Ammon and Lincoln Roads; it will open in late June and offer walk-in care seven days a week, operating from 8:00 a.m. + 8:00 p.m. KPVI
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Pocatello hosted 2,100 high school athletes at the Simplot Games Saturday at the Holt Arena, where many set personal records and caught the attention of college recruiters (as the event grew from a local competition in 1979 to a premier meet). East Idaho News
- ➤ Three championship trophies are coming home to southeast Idaho after Malad Dragons + Bear Lake Bears + Pocatello Thunder won their girls' state basketball titles last week in the Treasure Valley. The ICCU Dome also hosted the annual Simplot Games where top track and field athletes competed. East Idaho News
