- ➤ Four eastern Idaho hospitals — Portneuf Medical Center, Mountain View Hospital, Grove Creek Medical Center, and Madison Memorial Hospital — welcomed the first babies of 2026 on Jan. 1 and Jan. 2. Each family received a special gift package to mark the new year. East Idaho News
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Idaho Power and Intermountain Gas will raise rates for customers as the new year begins, causing higher utility bills for residents in the area. Idaho State Journal

- ➤ Pocatello is accepting Christmas trees for disposal at city hall, Rainey Park, and the entrance to Sister City Park through January 11; trees will be chipped and reused for local landscaping — residents must remove all lights, ornaments, wires, and decorations before dropping them off. KPVI

- ➤ Portneuf Medical Center welcomed Cole Todd Cantrell as its first baby of 2026. Hospital officials said the family and newborn are healthy. Idaho State Journal
